Brad Dexter

Brad Dexter (born April 9, 1917 in Goldfield , Nevada , † December 12, 2002 in Rancho Mirage , California ; actually Boris Milanovich ; also Barry Mitchell ) was an American actor and film producer .

Life

His parents were Serbian immigrants. As an amateur boxer, his roles were determined by tough guys and tough boys. He initially appeared on the radio and theater as Barry Mitchell and was discovered by John Huston . In his film Asphalt Jungle he made his debut in 1950 under the stage name Brad Dexter. During the 1950s he played the gunslinger in many gangster films and westerns.

The high point of his career in 1960 was the role of one of the title characters in the John Sturges western The Magnificent Seven alongside Yul Brynner , Steve McQueen , Horst Buchholz , Charles Bronson , Robert Vaughn and James Coburn . With Brynner he then stood in front of the camera in three other larger productions in larger roles. In the 1970s he increasingly turned to the production of films.

In 1964 he saved his close friend Frank Sinatra from drowning while filming None But the Brave in Hawaii.

He met his lifelong friend Karl Malden in the Air Force during World War II . They performed together in Winged Victory .
