Brady is a city with the status of City and the seat of the county seat in McCulloch County in the US state of Texas with 5553 inhabitants (2013).

geography

Brady is 110 kilometers southeast of San Angelo and 180 kilometers northwest of Austin . Since Brady is located almost exactly in the geographic center of the state of Texas, the place is nicknamed The Heart of Texas (The Heart of Texas). The highways US Highway 87 , US Highway 190 and US Highway 283 run through the city.

history

In the 1870s, settlers settled in the area and named the place Brady City , based on the nearby small river, the Brady Creek . McCulloch County residents chose the place as their administrative seat in 1876. With the construction of the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway , the place developed into a trading center. When the city was officially founded in 1906, the name was shortened to Brady . The main livelihood of the inhabitants then as now is agriculture, in particular the utilization of products from goat, sheep, cattle and poultry farming.

The historically valuable Mcculloch County Courthouse and Old McCulloch County Jail , a former prison, are listed on the McCulloch County's National Register of Historic Places .
