Brahehus

Brahehus is the ruin of a manor house in the Swedish municipality of Jönköping .

Per Brahe the Younger had the building built for his wife Christina from 1637 onwards, but it was not finished until the mid-1650s due to construction difficulties. Among other things, the location on a hill made it difficult to transport the building material. Since Christina died in 1650, the building was used as accommodation for the count's guests. The finished building consisted of a tall main building on the cliffs above Lake Vättern and two square corner towers. From here one had an excellent view over the lake, the island Visingsö and the place Gränna .

After Per Brahe's death, the interior was removed and shortly thereafter the entire county became the property of King Charles XI. over. In the autumn of 1708 a fire broke out in the neighboring village of Uppgränna, which also affected the manor house, which burned down to the ground. Today the E 4 motorway runs directly past Brahehus.
