Gränna is a place ( Tatort ) in the southern Swedish province of Jönköpings län and the historic province of Småland .
The place belongs to the municipality Jönköping on the eastern edge of the lake Vättern . It was founded in 1652 under the name "Brahe-Grenna" by Per Brahe the Younger . Brahe-Grenna was the first and only Swedish city to receive noble rights instead of royal city rights .
Gränna is known as a center for the production of candy canes, which are traditionally marketed in red and white under the name Polkagris , and for its fruit plantations . There is a ferry connection from the place to the island of Visingsö . In summer, Gränna is a popular destination for tourists. The development of the central parts of the city consists mainly of wooden villas, which often have a garden. The main street of the town becomes the bottleneck for the tourist traffic in summer.
The famous balloonist Salomon August Andrée was born in Gränna . In his memory there is a museum in the town that documents the failed polar expedition of 1897 .
