Per Brahe the Younger
Per Brahe the Younger (born February 18, 1602 at Rydboholm Palace , Uppland ; † September 12, 1680 ) was Swedish Reichsdrost , Count of Visingsborg and Governor General of Finland .
Life
Brahe was a grandson of Per Brahe the elder . After Per Brahe was elected land marshal in 1629 and imperial councilor in 1630, he inherited the county of Visingsborg in Småland from his uncle . Between 1637 and 1641 and between 1648 and 1654 he was Governor General of Finland. During this time he had many Finnish places built such as B. Raahe , Lappeenranta , Kajaani and old Hamina . Under his leadership, the city of Helsinki was moved from the Vanda River to its current position near the sea. Also the founding of the Turku Academy , which is todayUniversity of Helsinki , of which he was Chancellor for 40 years until his death, took place with strong support from Per Brahe.
In 1641 Per Brahe was appointed Swedish Reichsdrost, that is, the highest official of the state. In his county, Per Brahe had the castle on the island of Visingsö expanded and two more castles built. On the lakeshore opposite the island, he laid out the place Brahe-Grenna in 1652, which is now called Gränna .
In 1680 the count died in Bogesund Castle in the Uppland countryside . Shortly afterwards, King Charles XI took over . the county of Visingsborg in his possession.
