Bram van Dam

Bram van Dam (born June 21, 1943 in Sint-Oedenrode ; † December 26, 2008 ) was a Dutch sports and nutritionist and athletics trainer.

Live and act

After leaving school, Bram van Dam first studied theology at the University of Leiden and graduated in 1969 with the first state examination. Then a few years later he studied at the University of Freiburg and at the RWTH Aachen still sports and biochemistry and was used from 1978 to 1983 as a research associate at the Institute for Sports Medicine at RWTH Aachen. Here, along with other scientists, he was considered a pioneer of modern performance diagnostics . In the meantime, van Dam passed his first state examination in sport and biochemistry in 1981 and received his doctorate in the same year at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz with his dissertation: "The sports training of highly qualified fencers from the point of view of physical and psychological performance factors".

After passing his 2nd state examination, van Dam was taken on as a teacher at various grammar schools in Erkelenz and Aachen and was temporarily appointed representative for school sports at the Ministry of Education in North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, since 1985 he has worked as a lecturer for several private teaching institutes, first in the Netherlands and later for "SPT Education" in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For SPT in 1987, in cooperation with the International Academy for Sportscience (IAS), he created the first curriculum for further training measures in sports physiotherapy . In addition, he was a lecturer for trainer training in the Dutch Athletics Association (Koninklijke Nederlandse Atletiek Unie (KNAU)) and as a performance physiologist, in addition to Atletiek Unie, in the German Athletics Association (DLV) and the Spanish Tennis Association.

Since 2000 van Dam has mainly taken on freelance activities as a nutritionist. He was initially an orthomolecular therapist at the Society for Orthomulecular Medicine in the Netherlands and one year later received a visiting professorship at the Faculty of Movement Sciences at the Technical University of Lisbon . From 2005 he was appointed Scientific Director of the European Master in Psycho-Neuro-Immunology at the University of Girona , where he was appointed Associate Professor one year later . During his professional years, van Dam published more than 140 articles in various journals for sport, medicine, nutrition and performance physiology.

In addition, van Dam had the DLV's Trainer A license for the medium to long distance running disciplines and looked after, among other things, the medium distance athletes from the LAV Uerdingen / Dormagen , the Spanish Davis Cup team and the individual athletes Edith Niederfriniger , Marija Sharapowa , Kate Allen and others.
