Brandoa is a freguesia (parish) in the concelho ( district ) of the Portuguese Amadora . 17,732 people live in an area of 2.2 km² (as of June 30, 2011). The population density is thus 7982 inhabitants per km².
history
The community goes back to the Quinta da Brandoa estate . Since it was first mentioned in 1575, it had been in changing private ownership until it was mortgaged by its owners in 1958, valued at 800,000 Escudos , and later became public property. After the illegal settlement of the area of the Quinta began in 1960, the Câmara Municipal of Oeiras began to consider regular housing development in the area from 1962, when around 360 residential units had already been illegally built. The subsequent legalization of the buildings began in 1963. When a six-story building collapsed in 1969, further construction work was stopped and a development plan was drawn up. After further planning activities that did not produce any significant results, the development plan was only implemented after the Carnation Revolution in 1974. In 1975 the first active neighborhood committees, the Comissões de Moradores , came into being, and in 1977 the planned survey of the condition of the existing building fabric began. In 1979, Amadora County and Brandoa Municipality were created, and their bodies began their work in 1980.
