description

The palatial building at Palaisplatz 2a − d with a neo-baroque sandstone facade was built between 1899 and 1901 by the Oberlößnitz architect Oswald Haenel as a representative historicizing corner building. With its numerous Art Nouveau elements , it is probably the oldest public building with such clearly audible architectural decorations. Four house entrances open up the five-story monument. After the fire insurance institute, the Dresden water management and the local agenda had their headquarters in the building.

Between 1990 and 1992 the first renovation to an office building took place. From the end of the 1990s the building was empty. The planned conversion to a luxury hotel was not started.

The CG Group bought the building in 2016 . The renovation, planned by the architects Seidel + Architekten, began in April 2019. With a budgeted total cost of 25 million euros, 52 apartments are to be built on a floor space of 5334 square meters within two years. During the renovation, among other things, old power lines and floor boards were removed and non-load-bearing walls demolished, but at the same time most of the 180 old doors were secured and refurbished. The door portals should also be preserved and the curved sandstone elements, the sculptures and the granite plinth cleaned. The artificial marble from the construction period around 1900 is to be exposed in the foyers.
