Branko Ćopić , Cyrillic Бранко Ћопић (born January 1, 1915 in Hašani , Bosanska Krupa , † March 26, 1984 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslav writer.

Life

Ćopić studied at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Belgrade . He joined the partisans in 1941.

He was hospitalized in the last days of his life. He put an end to his life by jumping off the Brankov most bridge in Belgrade.

Works

Ćopić began with poems and stories in which he portrayed the hard life of Bosnian farmers. Then he chose above all the themes of partisan struggle during World War II and the problems of the immediate post-war period. He uses a broad, chronicle-like style in his novels. His novel Gluvi barut caused a sensation , in which he endeavored to present the struggle between communist partisans and monarchist Chetniks as objectively as possible and also to depict the terrible brutality of this struggle in an unadorned manner. His works have been translated into English, German, French, Russian and some Eastern European languages.

His most famous work is Ježeva kućica (Hedgehog's House).
