List of domestic dogs

The Braque du Bourbonnais (Bourbonnaiser Pointing Dog) is a French breed recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 7, Section 1.1, Standard No. 179 ).

Origin and history

Michel Comte with Vrac du Rocher des Jastres (owner: Michaël Comte, breeder: Michel Comte)

A type with the appearance of this dog breed can be found on a woodcut by Ulisse Aldrovandi in 1589 : a stubby-tailed, short-backed dog with a trout pattern. Aldrovandi calls it: Bourbonnais dog on the quail hunt In the 19th century, breeders tried to recreate it from the pointing dogs that existed all over Europe, which almost led to its extinction towards the end of this century. Pointer and Deutsch Kurzhaar have now been ticked for stabilization.

In the 1930s, breeders tried to enforce a pale lilac color and an innate short tail. This strict selection led to a threat to the breed: from 1963 to 1973 there were no entries in the French stud book.

In 1970, a group of breeders around Michel Comte set themselves the task of ensuring the survival of the Bourbonnaiser pointing dog . The French breed association, which is responsible for the breed standard , is now optimistic about the breed's future.

Brief description

The Braque du Bourbonnais is medium-sized with up to 57 cm.

The hair is fine, short and dense, a little coarser on the back and sometimes a little longer. Two colors are bred: brown moldy and orange moldy. With a brown coat with speckles , heavily to moderately speckled, the color nuances lie de vin (wine red) or lilas passé (faded lilac) can arise. A tan-colored spotting creates the color nuance fleur de pêcher (peach tree blossom).

The dogs' ears are set slightly above the eye line and can reach up to the throat or slightly beyond it. You lie against your cheek. In some dogs, the tail is naturally completely absent (→ brachyuria ). The breed standard provides a cropping off the tail, put the animal protection law, however, in German-speaking provisions narrow limits.
