Karg Brewery

The Karg Brewery is a brewery in Murnau am Staffelsee that specializes in wheat beers . Karg has an annual output of 10,000 hectoliters.

history

In place of the Karg brewery on the Murnauer Untermarkt, there was the Hirschvogel wheat beer brewery since 1899, which Andreas Karg bought in 1912. In 1977 he handed over the business to his nephew Franz Schubert, whose daughter Victoria Schubert-Rapp has been co-managing director since 2008. The specialization of the brewery Karg in top-fermented wheat beers took place in 1980 for reasons of space, before bottom-fermented beers were also brewed.

The Karg Brewery briefly became known nationwide when the US President Barack Obama drank from a Karg wheat beer glass during a visit to Krün in 2015 in the run-up to the G7 summit at Elmau Castle .

Since the beginning of 2018, Karg has been running the show brewery in the Glentleiten open-air museum , in which bottom-fermented beers are brewed.
