The brown-footed water beetle ( Hydrobius fuscipes ) is a beetle from the water beetle family (Hydrophilidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 6 to 9 millimeters. Their elongated oval body is colored black and has a bronze sheen. The antenna lobes are black, the legs yellow-brown, the palps are red-brown and have dark ends. The upper wings ( elytres ) each have 10 longitudinal strips of fine dots, deepened to the rear. Every other space also has irregular rows of larger dots.

Occurrence and way of life

The animals are also found in the Palearctic in the far north and on the British Isles and in North America . They live in sunny stagnant waters and also tolerate salt water. They are very common and swim on the surface.
