The brown-green striped fern ( Asplenium adulterinum ) is a representative of the striped fern ( Asplenium ) that only occurs on serpentine rock .

features

The brown-green striped fern reaches heights of growth of 5 to 20 cm. The fronds are simply pinnate, with the stem shorter than the blade. The stem and rachis are not winged. The petiole and base of the rachis are reddish brown, the rest green. The leaflets are often perpendicular to the frond surface. The spores ripen in July and August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 144.

Spores appear only in representatives of the species. The not uncommon hybrids with Asplenium viride , Asplenium trichomanes and Asplenium adulterinum are sterile.

The brown-green striped fern occurs in Central Europe in Bavaria and Saxony (e.g. Fichtelgebirge, Franconian Forest), Lower Austria, Burgenland, Carinthia, Salzburg, Styria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and in the area of ​​former Silesia. In Germany the species is classified as endangered.

It grows on serpentine rocks from the colline to the subalpine altitude level . He is the association character of the Asplenietum serpentini.
