history

Title 1861

In 1861 Johann Carl (1819-1897) founded the Allgemeine Bavarian Hopfenzeitung . Reports were made on the hop market , which up to that point had not been documented in writing, as there were only verbal agreements between hop farmers, traders and brewers. After the establishment of the German Brewers' Association in Dresden in 1871, in which Johann Carl played a key role, the Allgemeine Hopfenzeitung became the sole organ of the branch. As reporting on the brewing industry became more and more important, the magazine had the title Allgemeine Brauer- und Hopfenzeitung since 1882 and the title Die deutsche Brauerei from 1943 to 1945 . After the Second World War , the name Brauwelt was introduced and has been used since then. Die Brauwelt was the first brewery trade journal that was allowed to appear again after the war on January 31, 1946 with the approval of the American military administration . Today the German edition is read in 94 countries. Internationalization began in 1983 with the title Brewing World International in English, followed by Brewing World Russian ( Mir Piwa ) in 1995 , Brewing World En Español in 1996 and, from 1997, Brewing World Chinese in the respective national languages.

1991 saw the entry into the electronic age of publishing with the brewing database. The archive started at that time, which was accessible via BTX in the early years and via the Internet from 1997, was integrated into the subscription in 2005 and supplemented by an e-mail newsletter, so that today every subscriber can read the magazine in print or online. In addition to the magazine, specialist books are also published under the Brauwelt brand , and events and seminars on topics relating to brewing and beverage technology are offered.

Fachverlag Hans Carl GmbH has been running the operative publishing business as a 100% subsidiary of Raimund Schmitt Verpachtungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG since 2002 . The Schmitt family (formerly Carl) is now in the 6th generation behind the entire company.
