Dieter Krassnig

Dieter Krassnig (born August 3, 1973 in Klagenfurt ) is a former Austrian snowboarder .

Career

Krassnig achieved his first World Cup victory in 1994 in Lienz within the ISF . In 1996 he became the overall ISF winner. In 1997 he won silver in the giant slalom and parallel slalom disciplines at the ISF World Championships in Heavenly Valley . In 1998 he took fourth place in giant slalom at the Olympic Games in Nagano . Since the disqualification of the winner Rebagliati was in the room, the bronze medal was within reach.

After an injury break in 1999, he moved to the ÖSV and the FIS , where he was fifth overall in 2000. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2003 Snowboard World Championship on Kreischberg , he participated with little success. In 2004, however, he took second place in the FIS overall ranking.

After a good start to the 2005 season, a fall in Lake Placid made it necessary to take another injury break. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he reached the semifinals in boardercross , which meant eighth place.

In total, under the patronage of the FIS, he celebrated four individual victories (1997-2000, each in the giant slalom), achieved six 2nd and seven 3rd places and an additional 46 top ten placements.

In 2008 he announced his retirement from professional sport. He wanted to dedicate himself to a coaching company .
