Life

Braz Roberto da Costa was born in Minas Gerais, his parents moved to São José dos Campos in the state of São Paulo in 1965 . Here he came into contact with the Música Sertaneja, particularly through his uncle Braz Aparecido, a radio presenter and composer . He started playing the guitar at the age of 15, his teacher was the guitarist Dino Barioni . He played with several guitarists in Brazil, such as Roberto Corrêa , Paulo Freire , Renato Andrade , Pereira da Viola , Ivan Vilela and the Duo Zé Mulato e Cassiano .

In 1990 he began to teach in São José dos Campos and founded the "Orquestra de Viola Caipira de São José dos Campos" with students in 1991 and continues to lead it today. His musical concern is to make the special guitar and lute shapes typical of southern Brazil such as the viola caipira or the viola do cocho better known to orchestras. To this end, in addition to the publication of a number of music pedagogical textbooks, from 1994 he also held viola workshops in several cities. In the same year he founded the “Orquestra Viola de Coité” in Londrina and the “Orquestra Viola Serena” in Itamonte , and further orchestras followed from 2011. In August 2006, he performed at the Festival of World Cultures in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland .
