Breitenfürst is a hamlet that belongs to the city of Welzheim . Breitenfürst currently has 730 inhabitants

history

Schenk Walter II of Limpurg (attested from 1249 to 1283) built his own rule in the woods around Kocher and Rot. In 1564 the Limpurg taverns owned the majority of Breitenfürst (13 fiefs , 1 Selde ). Later about 3/4 of Breitenfürst belonged to the Limpurg taverns. In 1774, after lengthy disputes between the ten Limpurgian heirs , the allodial property of Breitenfürst passed to the Limpurg-Pückler rule over the inheritance of Schenk Vollrat.

The earliest Welzheimer Vogt known by name is Hans Häßlin, mentioned in 1491. The Welzheim office included the limpurgic part of Breitenfürst. Together with the other allodial holdings from the Welzheimer Amt (including Unterschlechtbach and Lindental), Breitenfürst and the animal bath formed the so-called "Oberämtle" or Limpurgic Amt Welzheim, which was administered from Gaildorf.

In 1539, Breitenfürst was by far the largest hamlet of Welzheim with 22 houses and 70 communicants (recipients of the Lord's Supper, i.e. adults). In 1617 Breitenfürst had 22 inhabitants, in 1648 2 inhabitants, from 1654 to 1702 always around 20 to 23 inhabitants, in 1711, however, already 105 inhabitants. 1804 then 144 inhabitants. In the first decades of the 19th century, Breitenfürst had 130 to 250 inhabitants.

Breitenfürst and Aichstrut were the first of the parts of Welzheim that had a school (before 1700). While 15 students were registered in 1601, in 1624 there were already around 80.

In 1811, Breitenfürst became an independent place of administration . Birkighof, Haaghof, Hagmühl, Haselhof, Haldenhof, Metzelhof, Schenkhöfle, Schmidhöfle, Thann and Thierbad belonged to Breitenfürst.

In 1875 a poor house was built in Breitenfürst.

Notable buildings

The historically most significant building stock in the Welzheim suburbs can be found in Breitenfürst.

Unusual are the basket-shaped carved, downwardly extended to noses and partially ornamented knags on the courtyard at Lorcher Str. 8. The half-timbered building , which is completely paneled except for the ground floor and is accessible on the gable side, is likely to have been built around 1600. The coarse, not grooved studs on the corner stands of Haus Rheinhold-Maier-Platz 15, which was otherwise largely rebuilt at a later time, also point to the same time.

According to Schahl, parts of the house at Stuttgarter Strasse 60, which is now modern, dates back to the 16th century. The strong overhang at Stuttgarter Straße 64 could in principle indicate a very old age, but since it increases in a wedge shape towards the corner of the house, it is closer to the 17th / 18th. Century to think. A simple baroque ornamental framework with St. Andrew's crosses and K-struts marks the gable of the building on the west side of the house at Stuttgarter Straße 72, which is marked on the basement portal in 1783, but whose striking window frames are probably more recent. The gable of the former guest house zur Krone (with - probably older - cellar portal from 1732), which is defined by a three-sided, apse-like extension, was even simpler. The brick-walled courtyard No. 52 has a particularly elaborate cladding on the gable side with ornamentally sawn-out board ends that are dovetail-shaped over the beam heads. Across the street, at No. 62, there is a former Ausdinghaus with a cellar portal dated 1813, the gable side of which is paneled in the same way as at the unusually stately courtyard at Lorcher Str. 6 from the same period

The house at Lorcher Str. 10, on the other hand, dates from the late 19th century and has a decorative framework

The former brick school building dates from the late 19th century , and its facade is structured with German bands and strips made of lighter stones. - The so-called Hirtenhäusle from 1810/25, once a washing, baking and school house, was moved to the courtyard of the Welzheim Museum in 1982.
