Brendan Francis Boyle (born February 6, 1977 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Since January 2015 he has represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1995, Brendan Boyle graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia. This was followed by studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend ( Indiana ) until 1999 . In 2005 he finished his education at Harvard Kennedy School . Professionally, he became a faculty member at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He also worked as a business consultant and in the radio industry. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 2008 and 2014 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the 2014 congressional election , Boyle was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Allyson Schwartz , who unsuccessful in the Democratic Party primary for office, on January 3, 2015 had run for governor . He defeated Republican Dee Atkins with 67:33 percent of the vote. Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States, which meets on January 3, 2017 . After the reorganization of the constituencies in Pennsylvania, he entered the 2nd district. He prevailed against the Republican David Torres with 78.9% of the vote. His term of office begins on January 3, 2019 and ends in January 2021.
