Brendan Michael Perry (born June 30, 1959 in Whitechapel , London ) is a British musician , singer and multi-instrumentalist. Together with Lisa Gerrard and David Kuckhermann he forms the band Dead Can Dance .

Career

Perry is primarily known today for his quiet, multi-ethnic music with Dead Can Dance, but began his musician career in a completely different genre. As a child he migrated with his parents to Auckland, New Zealand , where he taught himself to play the guitar. In 1977 he became a member of the New Zealand punk band The Scavengers , in which he appeared under the pseudonym Ronnie Recent . First Perry was the band's bass player, then took on the role of lead singer in 1978 after the previous front man had left the band.

In 1979 the band moved to Melbourne and changed their name to The Marching Girls . Perry left the band in 1981 to form Dead Can Dance with Lisa Gerrard, Simon Monroe and Paul Erikson, but just a year after moving to London in 1982, Dead Can Dance were a duo. On the 4AD label of Ivo Watts Dead Can Dance recorded eight albums in 1998 up to the separation of the year.

In 1999 Perry released his solo album Eye of the Hunter , which includes his own pieces as well as a cover version of Tim Buckley's piece I Must Have Been Blind . Perry participated in several compilations for which he u. a. covered other songs by Buckley, namely Happy Time and Dream Letter .

Brendan Perry now lives in Ireland (Cavan Eire), is the head of a samba school (Quivvy School of Samba) and occasionally gives percussion workshops in the old studio of Dead Can Dance (Quivvy Church). Dead Can Dance was revived for two tours in Europe and North America in 2005.

In 2008 Perry separated from the 4AD label.

On March 14, 2010 - and thus before the release of Ark - Perry began a European and South American tour, the latter together with Peter Murphy .
