The place has 27 houses and 82 residents. The village is in a rural setting. It can be reached via the state road 701 between Ennepetal and Breckerfeld , Delle junction. Well-developed hiking trails, such as the route of the former Haspe – Voerde – Breckerfeld railway , are integrated into the regional network of hiking trails.

History and culture

A cultural and historical specialty of the village is represented by several so-called double courtyards: A farmhouse has two entrances that are on the opposite long sides. Inside, too, the house is completely separated over both floors, so that two farmers run two separate farms in it. In the meantime, however, none of the old farms are still used exclusively for agriculture.

The historical importance of Brenscheid as a farming village can be seen, among other things, in a tax list from 1704, in which Brenscheid is listed as one of the five localities, along with Ebbinghausen , Berghausen , Bühren and Neuenloh , into which the farming community of Breckerfeld was divided. To this day, the farmers compete in the annual farmer bird shooting according to this classification.

A map of the parish of Breckerfeld from 1818 shows that the Brenscheid farmers were assigned the present-day villages and farms Brauck , Peyinghausen , Krallenheide , Lorenzheide , Finkenberg , Haschenschlage , Eicken , Dörnen and Siepen .

In the valley of the Schwarzenbruch brook, behind Finkenberg, lies the well-preserved and listed Finkenberger mill . The water mill was put into operation in 1861 and impresses with its old overshot water wheel , which has a diameter of 5.60 meters. When it closed in 1964, it was the last of its kind in the area.
