history

The Brenz Band was founded in 1977 in a school for the mentally handicapped in the eponymous Brenz- Strasse in Ludwigsburg. The band made their first appearances in the local pedestrian zone. This was still unusual at the time, as disabled people rarely appeared in public, but rather were "hidden" at home. In the following years the live activities of the Brenz Band expanded significantly. In 2000, in addition to appearances in France and Switzerland , a concert tour to the Middle East followed . There they gave a one and a half hour, much acclaimed concert in the Lebanese State Theater in Beirut in the presence of representatives of the Lebanese government as well as ambassadors from France, Switzerland and Germany . This concert was also televised as far as Iraq and Syria . The documentary film Brenz Band - Der Wirbelwind im Lebanon by Sabine Hackenberg was made for this trip . In addition to many local, national and international appearances, the Brenz Band also played at the Federal President's 2007 Summer Festival at the special request of Horst Köhler .

In 2011 the Brenz Band ventured to the People's Republic of China on a concert tour. She played in the universities in Beijing , Qingdao and Shanghai , in the German Embassy (Beijing) as well as on the Great Wall of China and in Taicang , a suburb of Shanghai. The 10-day tour was captured in the documentary Brenz Band goes China by Sebastian Weimann and Felix Meinhardt .

A trip to Jordan is planned for 2013 .

A return to China is planned for 2014 to host the MAKEL LOS festival for people with disabilities.

During their performances, the band plays pieces from Mozart or Beethoven to the Beatles . There are also many popular pieces in their repertoire. They describe their style as "heavy street music with Swabian Cajun ". Half of all income from these concerts goes to charitable causes.
