The street Bretzelnweg in the district town of Düren ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) is an inner-city street . It is located in the Düren-Nord district .

location

The street begins at Alte Jülicher Strasse and ends at Neue Jülicher Strasse . On the south side of the street is the largest of the three secondary schools in Düren , the Bretzelnweg secondary school .

history

The street already appeared in the address book from 1893. There are different interpretations of the name:

  1. The name could come from the tough tufts of grass growing there, the so-called pretzels.
  2. Many processions from the Jülich region also took part in the Rochus procession of the Marienpfarre in Düren . They came into the city via Alte Jülicher Strasse. On the way back, the pilgrims at the corner of Bretzelnweg and Alte Jülicher Straße received consecrated pretzels as souvenirs , which were given away by the bakers in the parish.
