history
The street already appeared in the address book from 1893. There are different interpretations of the name:
- The name could come from the tough tufts of grass growing there, the so-called pretzels.
- Many processions from the Jülich region also took part in the Rochus procession of the Marienpfarre in Düren . They came into the city via Alte Jülicher Strasse. On the way back, the pilgrims at the corner of Bretzelnweg and Alte Jülicher Straße received consecrated pretzels as souvenirs , which were given away by the bakers in the parish.
