Brian Ó Domhnaill

Brian Ó Domhnaill (born October 18, 1977 in County Donegal ) is an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ) and since 2007 Senator in the Seanad Éireann .

Ó Domhnaill attended St. Finian's National School in Falcarragh and Pobal Scoil Cloich Cheann Fhaola, also located in Falcarragh . After finishing school, he studied at the University of Ulster , where he received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors (B.Sc. hons).

In December 1999 Ó Domhnaill was elected for the first time to the management of Údarás na Gaeltachta , the administrative authority of the Gaeltacht . In April 2005 he was re-elected. He was also a member of Donegal County Council since 2004 .

In August 2007, he was nominated Senator in the Seanad Éireann by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern . In November 2010, he ran for a seat in the Dáil Éireann in the by-election in the constituency of Donegal South West , but was defeated by Pearse Doherty of the Sinn Féin .

After Ó Domhnaill's departure from Donegal County Council in the course of his nomination for senator, his brother Seamus Ó Domhnaill ran for the by-election to fill the now vacant seat, but was defeated and only became independent at the next regular election of the county council in 2009 Candidate elected. In November 2010, Seamus Ó Domhnaill joined the Fianna Fáil, which some attributed to his brother's candidacy in the by-election in the Donegal South West constituency . Seamus Ó Domhnaill himself denied such a connection.
