Brian Downey (musician)
Brian Michael Downey (born January 27, 1951 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish drummer , best known as a member of the rock band Thin Lizzy . Along with Phil Lynott , Downey was the only constant member of the group until it was temporarily disbanded in 1983 .
In his youth, Downey met Phil Lynott, who attended the same school. Before founding Thin Lizzy, Downey was a member of several bands including Sugar Shack, and was then persuaded by Lynott to join his band Orphanage. Together with guitarist Eric Bell and keyboardist Eric Wrixon, they finally formed the quartet Thin Lizzy.
In addition to his work for Thin Lizzy, he was also involved in Phil Lynott's solo albums, as well as several albums by Gary Moore , including Still Got the Blues .
After Lynott's death in 1986 , Downey only played intermittently in the line-up with John Sykes , Scott Gorham , Darren Wharton and Marco Mendoza . Since 2010 he has been a member of the formation again.
