from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brian O'Shaughnessy (born May 5, 1931 in Aldershot , United Kingdom , † June 18, 2001 in Cape Town , Republic of South Africa ) was a British-born, South African actor in the theater , film , television and radio and the author of a play.

Live and act

Brian O'Shaughnessy grew up in England before his parents took him out of the country to safety in South Africa during World War II because of the possibility of a German invasion of Britain. The Briton stayed there after the war ended in 1945 and decided to become an actor. For the next half century he would be seen in classic and modern plays, including Hello, Dolly! , Antonius and Cleopatra , Slave Trade, Terra Nova, Buried Inside Extra, The Fan and most recently (1995) Broken Glass . Commitments have taken him to numerous regions in South Africa, including the Orange Free State , Natal and Cape Town. In 1999 O'Shaughnessy gave his farewell performance on stage with the staging of his play A Time to Die , which he staged at the Kwasuka Theater in Durban . At the center of the plot there was the trial of the Australian Boer War participant Breaker Morant , who was executed for war crimes in 1902.

South African by choice O'Shaughnessy has made a name for himself above all since 1962 with numerous supporting and leading roles in an abundance of cinema and television films. Since his participation in the adventure films Hunt for Blue Diamonds and Sandy the Seal , which were mainly produced with German-speaking staff in 1964 , the actor has been repeatedly used in German productions made locally in South Africa. It was mainly about action-packed adventure, history and diamond stories (including diamonds are dangerous, treasure hunt of our days, diamond detective Dick Donald and hardness 10 ). Jürgen Goslar in particular brought O'Shaughnessy for his TV and cinema productions ( The Rivonia Trial, ... and the night knows no mercy , Slavers - The Slave Hunters ). In addition, the South African was seen both in a textile-poor Stone Age flick of the English Hammer film (with the main role of a tribal leader in Sex six million years ago ) and in an early crime scene crime thriller with Commissioner Trimmel (as a Dutch mercenary and involved in one Cash transport robbery in crime scene: Trimmel and the tulip thief ).

In addition, Brian O'Shaughnessy made an appearance in Egon Günther's lavish and ambitious three-part play Morenga in the mid-1980s . Right up to the end ( Die Spesenritter, Die Wüstenrose , Falling Rocks and finally My Papa with the Cold Snout from 2001) Brian O'Shaughnessy could be seen with small roles in German productions. In addition to his work in front of the camera, the artist was also a well-known radio voice in his South African homeland. O'Shaughnessy recorded numerous broadcasts for Springbok and Safm (formerly Radio South Africa). He died of a heart attack as a result of minor surgery.
