Briesemeister Peak

The Briesemeister Peak is a 690  m high mountain on the Wilkins Coast of Palmer Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 11 km west-northwest of Cape Rymill .

The Australian polar explorer Hubert Wilkins photographed the mountain on his Antarctic flight on December 20, 1928. Further aerial photographs were taken in 1940 during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941). The naming took place in the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948). Name giver is William Arthur Briesemeister (1895-1967), senior cartographer of the American Geographical Society from 1913 to 1963, who identified this mountain with the help of two photos by Hubert Wilkins and thereby made the correct position of the Stefansson Strait in 1948 .
