The law firm was founded in 1881 by Arthur von Briesen as Briesen & Betts and continues to this day, changing its name several times.

The firm was decisively shaped by Arthur von Briesen (1843–1920). The lawyer of German origin has worked with various partners over the years. From 1881 to 1882 he started with Samuel R. Betts under the name Briesen & Betts . He then went on to form Steele & Briesen with Sanford H. Steele . From 1886 to 1888 he formed the law firm Briesen, Steele & Knauth with Antonio Knauth (1855–1915) . After Steele left, the firm was called Briesen & Knauth from 1888 to 1915 . After the death of Antonio Knauth in 1915, the firm was called Briesen & Schrenk, corresponding to the new partner Otto von Schrenk (1874–1932) . In 1937 Karl Pohl (1895–1947) became a partner and in 1946 the firm changed its name to Klein, Alexander & Pohl . Other partners were Fred A. Klein and Louis Alexander . Under the partner Clifton Cooper (1895–1953) the firm was called Klein, Alexander & Cooper , later then with Francis J.
