Brigeen Doran

Brigeen Doran (* 1954 in Greystones / Ireland) is an Irish - Swiss jazz saxophonist ( alto and tenor saxophone ).

Doran moved to Lucerne with her family when she was five . She came into contact with music through her father, a ballad singer, and then influenced her older brother Christy Doran , who had played jazz rock since 1969 . She studied saxophone with Urs Leimgruber (at the Jazz School Lucerne) and with Andy Scherrer at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern. She founded her first band KIOL with the guitarist Heinz Affolter , the pianist Raoul Walton and the bassist Fernando Saunders. With this band she recorded two albums ( Take It On , 1979; Sunny Day , 1980). With KIOL she appeared in 1983 as opening act for Billy Cobham . With her second brother, the drummer Dave Doran , Mark Koch and Fredy Miller, she toured as Doran, Cook & Miller , for example in 1986 through East Germany. In the early 1990s she played with Miller, Christy and Dave Doran in the Doran Band , with whom she recorded the album Jazzrap in 1991 and also toured the United States. She performed at international festivals and produced her album "Bright Moments" (1993) in New York with Fernando Saunders, Christy and Dave Doran. She was also a member of Dave Doran's "New Rhythm Culture" with Joseph Bowie , Kelvin Bell and Jean-Paul Bourelly . In her jazz / funk formation BB-Funk she plays with Marco Figini, Andy Hermann, Dave Doran and Gianni Luescher; she continues to play in the octet X-elle .

Brigeen Doran is a saxophone teacher at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and director of the female band workshop there.
