Brigid Weinzinger (born July 23, 1962 in Gmünd , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian interpreter , environmental activist and former member of the National Council of the Greens .

School education and study

Brigid Weinzinger attended the elementary school in Eibenstein (municipality of Gmünd) between 1968 and 1972 and then switched to the Gmünd Gymnasium, which she graduated with the Matura in 1980 . In 1980 Weinzinger began studying interpreting at the University of Vienna, which she successfully completed in 1986. Weinzinger earned the title Mag. Phil. and is a qualified translator and interpreter for English and Spanish . After completing her studies, Weinzinger attended postgraduate studies at the University of Southampton (England) at the Institute of Anthrozoology between 2001 and 2003 .

Professional and political career

After completing her studies, Weinzinger worked in development organizations until 1995. From 1995 to 1997 she was the national spokesperson for Global 2000 . She also worked as a freelance translator and interpreter.

In 1998 Weinzinger was elected as a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament and was party leader of the Greens in the Lower Austrian state parliament until 2003. After Madeleine Petrovic switched to regional politics in Lower Austria, Weinzinger took over her mandate in the Austrian National Council. In the election of the Green list of residual votes in Lower Austria for the 2008 National Council election on August 10, 2008, Weinzinger was narrowly defeated in the vote for second place on the list against Tanja Windbüchler-Souschill and waived another candidacy for third place. She then announced her withdrawal from politics.

Today Weinzinger runs a training and behavioral counseling facility for dogs, cats, horses and humans.
