Brigitta Schuett

Brigitta Schütt (born April 30, 1963 in Rees ) is a German geographer and professor of physical geography at the Institute for Geographical Science at the Free University of Berlin .

Career

Brigitta Schütt studied geography at the University of Würzburg until 1988 and then did her doctorate at RWTH Aachen University . In 1998 she completed her habilitation at the University of Trier .

After heading the department of physical geography at the University of Trier from 2000 to 2002 and a visiting professorship for physical geography at the University of Bonn in 2002, she has held the chair for physical geography at the Free University of Berlin since the end of 2002 .

Brigitta Schütt was Vice President of the Free University of Berlin from 2010 to 2018. In 2012 she became a member of the Commission for Geomorphology of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

research

Her main research interests are in the areas of paleoenvironmental reconstruction, the early Quaternary paleoclimate, environmental history, soil erosion and the management of water catchment areas.

One of her main areas of research is the evaluation of the influence of traditional land management techniques on the landscape budget and the development of cultural landscapes. By combining the analysis of current processes, such as soil erosion, with research on the history of the environment, future developments in natural resources, such as water availability, should be able to be predicted using appropriate modeling.
