Carl Gustaf Frölich , 1700 Freiherr , 1706 Graf , ( Swedish Carl Gustaf friherre och greve Frölich ; * 1637 ; † March 1714 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish general of the infantry .

Life

Origin and family

Carl Gustaf was a member of the Frölich family, who originally came from Gerdorf in Styria and were naturalized in Sweden in 1682 . His parents were the Swedish Colonel Hans Christoffer Frölich (1602-1658) and Elisabeth, born von Plessen from the house of Neuenhof and Ventschow († after 1665). His first marriage was to Plantina Margareta Bengtsdotter († 1690) and his second marriage to Beata Christina Cronström (1671–1752). A total of ten children resulted from both marriages.

Career

Frölich already took part in the occupation of other areas in Poland , but did not begin his career in the Swedish army until 1665 as a cornet in the regiment of Colonel Wolmar Wrangel . He was promoted to lieutenant captain in the Kalmar regiment in 1670 and was promoted to captain in the Jämtlands regiment that same year . He stayed there until his promotion to major in 1676 and in the same year moved to Bohus as a lieutenant colonel and commander . In 1678 he was a colonel in command in Marstrand and in 1679 in Malmö as well . After the end of the Northern War he was naturalized with the knighthood . He was promoted to major general of the infantry in 1893 and became governor of Västernorrland , Jämtland and Härjedalen . He commanded the Hälsinge Regiment in 1698 and at the outbreak of the Great Northern War became both Governor of Riga and Lieutenant General of the Infantry. Finally, in the same year, he was promoted to the status of Swedish baron. In 1701 he took part in the battle of the Daugava , which was victorious for Sweden , and rose to become Governor General of Swedish Livonia in 1702 . In 1704 he became general of the infantry and commander of the garrison regiments in Riga. From 1705 he was royal councilor and president of the Hovrats in Dorpat and in 1706 he was raised to the status of Swedish count.
