Main focus of work and research

In her socio-theoretical work, Brigitte Aulenbacher follows the tradition of critical sociology. It refers to Polanyi, Marx, Weber, Critical Theory and others. In her theory-pluralistic approach, she combines classic recourses with contemporary social analyzes, various approaches to work, organization and welfare state research such as gender and intersectionality research. The crises and transformations of contemporary capitalism are a central theme. Her special focus is on the interplay of economization tendencies with further social developments. In this way, questions of social inequality, phenomena such as precariousness, changes in the welfare state, changes in work, gainful employment and other forms of work come into focus. One focus of her research is the field of care and care work, in which she works empirically and theoretically in international projects. She co-edits the book series "Arbeitsgesellschaft im Wandel", which is published by Beltz Juventa Verlag. As a representative of a public sociology , she promotes the dialogue between science and civil society; in this context she co-edits Global Dialogue, the magazine of the International Sociological Association ISA. She is Vice President of the International Karl Polanyi Society. She was awarded the Kurt Rothschild Prize for her work in economic journalism.
