Brigitte Horn-Helf

Brigitte Horn-Helf (* 1948 in Essen ) is a German translation scholar and technical translator for Russian and English.

Live and act

Brigitte Horn-Helf studied at the then Foreign and Interpreting Institute (ADI) of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim and graduated in 1971 as a qualified translator. She then worked as a technical translator in industry and was the managing director of a translation agency. In 1996 she did her doctorate on "Compression in common and technical word formation in contemporary Russian". On the basis of her habilitation thesis on “Conventions of Technical Communication: Macro- and Microcultural Contrasts in Instructions”, which was accepted at the University of Leipzig in 2006 , she received the license to teach intercultural communication and translatology . In the winter semester of the same year, she began teaching at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FASK), since 2009 Faculty of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FTSK), at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Germersheim, with seminars on the subject of “Cultural Difference in Special Text Conventions” .
