The Volksbank Achern eG was a German cooperative bank based in Achern in Baden-Wuerttemberg . In 2015 it was ranked 214th out of 1,019 cooperative banks in Germany. In 2016 it merged with Volksbank Offenburg to form Volksbank in der Ortenau .

The Volksbank Achern was supported as a cooperative bank by around 19,000 members. The main purpose of the cooperative was the economic promotion and support of its members (§ 2 of the statutes). According to the statutes, the members elected representatives from their ranks every four years (one representative per 30 members). The representative assembly met annually.

The business area of the bank extended in the Ortenaukreis over the area of the city of Achern , the city of Renchen , the communities of Lauf and Sasbach as well as the Achertal .
Business areas
The business areas of the bank included corporate and private customer business. The organization of the bank was divided into the areas of corporate customers, commercial customers and liberal professions, private customer business, wealth management, real estate financing and brokerage, and payment systems. In addition, Volksbank Achern operated its own travel agency.
history
In March 1868, 61 men came together under the leadership of Oberamtmann von Feder to discuss the establishment of an "advance payment and credit association for the district of Achern". On June 20, 1868, the founding meeting was called and the regulations were laid down in it.
On October 1, 1910, the company moved into its first bank building. In 1924, the balance sheet total exceeded the million mark for the first time and the bank had 613 members. Ten years later the first branch was opened in Renchen . In addition, the name was changed to "Volksbank Achern eGmbH".
In 1960 the balance sheet total reached the DM 10 million mark and the Volksbank had 837 members. In 1964, the new bank building was moved to its current location in Hauptstrasse. During this time, the branches in Sasbachwalden and Oberachern were also opened .
The balance sheet total at the end of 1968 was 24.9 million DM, the number of members rose to 1282. The years 1970 to 1982 were marked by many mergers with surrounding cooperatives and the change of name to "Volksbank-Raiffeisenbank Achern eG". The renovation work on the main building was completed in 1985. At the same time, the first ATM was put into operation. At the end of 1985 the bank had total assets of DM 336.9 million and 7,488 members. The 125th anniversary in 1993 was followed in 1998 and 1999 by the mergers with Spar- und Kreditbank Raiffeisenbank eG Ottenhöfen and Volksbank Sasbach eG. In 2006, renewed renovations were completed on the main building.
