history

The Offenburg trade association was constituted on February 2, 1863 with an advance fund in the "Salmen" in Offenburg. The statute of the newly founded Offenburg Trade Association was approved and signed on January 25, 1864 by 37 members (17 craftsmen, 7 manufacturers, 7 merchants, 1 worker, 1 orphan judge, 1 mayor, 2 lawyers and 1 landlord).

The bank was opened on June 15, 1864. In the first year the bank has 74 members with a share balance of 968 guilders and assets of 15,599 guilders. The management consists of: Josef Nonn (board member), Theodor König (computer), Karl Geck (secretary).

In 1868 - also in terms of personnel - the separation from the trade association to the advance association Offenburg took place, which thus achieved its independence. In 1870 it becomes a registered cooperative. Due to personal and political differences, there was a separation into the Advance Association eG and the OrtenauerCreditverein in 1880. In 1889 the name was changed to “Advance Association Offenburg, registered cooperative with unlimited liability”. In 1906 the bank moved into its own building at Okenstrasse 7, which is still the bank's headquarters today.

In 1924 the bank was renamed Vereinsbank Offenburg eGmbH, after the bank closed the year 1923 with total assets of 149 quadrillion marks. This is followed by the conversion from 1 trillion paper marks to 1 Reichsmark. In 1943 the bank operates for the first time as Volksbank Offenburg eGmbH. In 1948, after the currency reform, the DM is introduced. 1959–1964 the branch network is continuously expanded. In 1971 the merger with the Raiffeisenkasse Zell-Weierbach and the Raiffeisenkasse Ortenberg took place. In 1972 the merger with Volksbank Oberkirch followed. In 1974 the bank was named Volksbank Offenburg eG. In 1978 the merger took place with the savings and credit bank Offenburg, in 1998 with the Volksbank Appenweier-Urloffen and the Renchtalbank Oppenau. In October 2016, the merger with Volksbank Achern eG to form Volksbank in the Ortenau took place .
