Brigitte Schwarz (politician)

Brigitte Schwarz (born June 5, 1960 in Kapfenberg ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 2005 to 2012 she was mayor of the Upper Styrian town of Kapfenberg.

Life

Brigitte Schwarz made her graduation at the commercial college in Bruck an der Mur . She studied German and history to become a teacher at the University of Graz and was managing director of the learning aid association Kapfenberg (BKLV) from 1987 to 1993. From 1993 to 1996 she was a consultant and coordinator at a vocational training institute . Ten years after her studies, she became a teacher at BORG Eisenerz and in 2002 switched to the UNESCO project school BG / BRG Neu in Leoben . She worked there until she was appointed mayor on December 12, 2005.

Political career

In the Socialist Youth of Austria (SJÖ) she was on the state and national executive boards. She is an honorary member of the SJÖ. She has been a member of Kapfenberg's municipal council since 1990, where she was environmental officer and, from 2000, city councilor for culture. From March 2005 she was the first female mayor. After the mayor of Kapfenberg, Manfred Wegscheider (SPÖ), was appointed to the regional government for sport, environment and renewable energies in the state government of Voves I of Styria on October 25, 2005 , Brigitte Schwarz took office as his successor. The election in the municipal council took place without a dissenting vote.

In the municipal council elections in 2010, the SPÖ lost 20% of the votes with her as the top candidate, but was able to hold the absolute majority of votes and mandates. Black stayed in office.

On November 30, 2012, Schwarz announced her resignation as mayor on December 5, 2012. With her, three other city government members announced that they would resign from their functions. This was preceded by disputes about the return of her predecessor as Mayor Manfred Wegscheider to Kapfenberg local politics. He was elected her successor on December 13th.
