Briken Calja

Briken Calja (born February 19, 1990 in Shtërmen , Elbasan County ) is an Albanian weightlifter .

Calja took 13th place in the class up to 69 kg at the European Championships in 2008 . In 2009 he finished ninth at the European Championships and won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games . At the 2010 World Championships , he reached twelfth place. In the same year, Calja became European Junior Champion. In 2012 he was sixth at the European Championships . He then took part in the Olympic Games in London in part, where he finished ninth. At the 2013 European Championships , he won bronze in the push, but had no valid attempt in the snatch. He was third at the 2013 Mediterranean Games . However, he was tested positive for androsterone during the doping control and banned for two years. After his suspension, Calja finished eighth at the 2015 World Championships . At the European Championships in Bucharest in 2018 , he won gold in snatch and push with 146 kg and 175 kg respectively.
