Brimpsfield Castle today

Brimpsfield Castle is a ruined castle in the village of Brimpsfield between the towns of Gloucester and Cirencester in the English county of Gloucestershire .

The first castle on this site was probably built after the Norman conquest of England . Later, in the 12th or 13th century, it was replaced by a stone castle.

Its owner, John Giffard, 2nd Baron Giffard , rebelled against King Edward II and was executed in 1332. The castle was then razed .

Today a mound with an outer wall and moat and the foundations of a gatehouse can still be seen on the property .
