Brinckmann and Lange
The office and commercial building Brinckmann und Lange is located in Bremen , Mitte district, Altstadt district, Sögestraße 1 and Obernstraße 3. The house was built in 1928 according to plans by Heinrich Wilhelm Behrens and Friedrich Neumark . It has been a listed building in Bremen since 1973 .
history
The three-storey, brick-clad house with two gables dates from 1928. It was built according to plans by Behrens and Neumark for the long-established Brinckmann und Lange jewelry store in a prime urban location. Above the large arcade arch on the ground floor there is a narrow, high gable front with a simplified staggered gable and a suggested two-storey bay porch.
An expressionist bronze figure of a goldsmith above the narrow, pointed arcade on Sögestraße was made by the sculptor Engelhard Tölken (1882–1928).
The State Office for Monument Preservation Bremen wrote: “It (the building) leaned in shape and material on the neighboring house built by Carl Eeg and E. Runge in 1914 , the 'Rohlandseck' house , which after the war was simplified by one floor elevated form was rebuilt by Carl Eeg and Albert Meyer ... both buildings now form a group. In a concise urban design. "
After the exclusive jewelry store Brinckmann und Lange gave up on site in the early 2000s, there is now (2018) a mobile phone shop on the ground floor.
Brinckmann & Lange jewelers
In 1874, Adolph Brinckmann (1845–1926) and Gerhard Lange (1858–1924) founded the Brinckmann & Lange jewelry store at Sögestraße 1. Long had been married to Adolph Brinckmann's daughter Henriette Sophie Marie Brinckmann since 1891. The son Adolf Lange (1892–1975) later ran the business. The trade is currently carried out through various boutiques.
The animal fountain (bronze with gold-plated motifs) based on a design by Gerhard Lange from 1898, manufactured in 1974 in the Kraas art foundry in Berlin, is a gift from Brinckmann & Lange to the city of Bremen on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary.
