history

Even in old city views (1638–1647) by Matthäus Merian , two gabled houses can be seen between Platz and Sögestraße. Before 1914 there was a previous building here, which was felt to be unsuitable because of its classicist facade in view of the Bremen town hall and the Church of Our Lady .

The new, then three-storey, clinkered house was built in 1914 in a prime urban location for the businessman von Hütschler and Streckewald. The construction should contribute to the beautification of the cityscape in the inner city. Therefore, after a competition that Eeg won, the additional design effort of the facade with u. a. Stone structure, stepped gable and bay window taken over by the Julius Rohland Foundation in Bremen .

The State Office for Monument Preservation Bremen wrote: "The choice of materials and the basic shape of the office building were based on the Bremen tradition of the city-gable brick house ... without, however, becoming rigid in a conventional, historic design."

In 1944, only the ground floor remained after the war damage. The reconstruction from 1948 to 1959 was accompanied by Eeg in cooperation with the architect Albert Meyer. It is similar to the previous building. The house was raised by a fourth floor. According to the building statutes for the square, the previous three gables had to be dispensed with; in the roof area only the four dormers were allowed.

To the left of Haus Rohlandseck is the similar Haus Brinkmann und Lange from 1928.
