Friedrich Neumark
Friedrich Neumark , called Fritz , (born May 19, 1876 in Bremen ; † April 24, 1957 in Bremen) was a German architect .
biography
Neumark was the son of the Jewish painter Johann Neumark (1838-1905) and his wife Rosalie (1849-1923). He learned the craft of a bricklayer . He attended the technical college in Bremen from 1895 to 1898 and studied at the Technical University of Berlin until 1895 . From 1902 to 1906 he was employed at the Schauspielhaus in New York in the USA .
In 1907 he founded the architectural association Behrens & Neumark together with Heinrich Wilhelm Behrens in Bremen . Many residential and commercial buildings were planned and realized by the office.
Unless the buildings were destroyed in World War II, they are now a listed building (see list of cultural monuments in Bremen-Mitte ). The Bauhaus teacher and architect Ludwig Hilberseimer (1911) also worked in the office for a short time .
During the First World War Neumark was a pioneer officer on the Eastern Front. In 1931 he left the Jewish community and was baptized. In November 1938 he was arrested and released from the Sachsenhausen concentration camp on condition that he emigrate immediately. He fled the National Socialist persecution of Jews to England and returned to Bremen after the end of the war in 1946. He now worked with the architect Herbert Anker and designed several residential buildings as well as the Ibero-Amerika Bank in Obernstrasse. He was also house architect for Deutsche Libby AG .
Musically, Neumark emerged as a cellist .
Neumark was buried in his father's family grave at the Riensberg cemetery in Bremen (grave location: grid square BB / CC).
