Brita Koivunen-Einiö (born August 31, 1931 in Helsinki ; † April 12, 2014 there ) was a Finnish jazz and pop singer.

Live and act

Her best-known songs include the Finnish-translated piece Suklaasydän (1955) - in the original Mama's Pearls , a B-side by the US singer Margaret Whiting that had received little attention until then . The song was honored with a gold record in Finland . This also includes the hits Sävel rakkauden (1957) and Mamma, tuo mies minua tuijottaa (1958). In the German-speaking world, Rautalankatango (1964) is probably her best-known song, which appeared on the 1999 compilation of Finnish Tango - Tule Tanssimaan on the Trikont label .

Koivunen's career began in Helsinki in 1954. She recorded her first song, Naisen – miehen , with Tor Börje Lampenius, performed it in a hit program and thus came into contact with an orchestra. Koivunen has shown herself to be a capable all-round interpreter in the course of her career, recording children's songs during the 1960s and releasing a record with jazz standards in 1985. Her favorite interpreters in jazz are, according to her own statements, Peggy Lee , Anita O'Day and Mel Tormé .

At the end of the 1990s she formed a trio of singers together with Pirkko Mannola and Vieno Kekkonen who interpreted songs from the 1950s. In 2005, however, Marjatte Leppänen took over Koivunens place.

Koivunen married the musician and actor Paavo Einiö in 1955, with whom she lived until his death in 2006. At the age of 82 she succumbed to colon cancer .
