Brita Wagener
Brita Wagener (born November 1, 1954 in Salzgitter ) is a retired German diplomat . Most recently, she was ambassador to Ethiopia from 2017 to 2020 .
Life
Brita Wagener graduated from high school in 1973 and studied law in Bonn and Hamburg from 1974 to 1978, completing the first state examination in law. From 1980 to 1983 she completed her legal preparatory service, which she completed in 1983 with the second state examination in law. Wagener is married to the now retired diplomat Martin Kobler .
career
1983 to 1985 she was in the preparatory service for the higher foreign service. Her first position was at the German Embassy in Cairo from 1985 to 1988, where she was a consultant for legal and consular matters. From 1988 to 1991 she was a consultant in the international law department in the Federal Foreign Office in the then federal capital Bonn. From 1991 to 1994 she was Counselor for Political Affairs at the German Embassy in New Delhi, and then Counselor for Economic Affairs at the German Embassy in Tel Aviv from 1994 to 1997. From 1997 to 1998 she was deputy head of the Department for the Middle East in the Foreign Office (Berlin), from 1998 to 2003 deputy head of the department for human resources and from 2000 to 2003 head of the human rights department. From 2003 to 2006 she was an envoy at the German Embassy in Cairo. From 2006 to 2009 she worked as a coordinator for international personnel policy at the head office in Berlin.
From 2009 to 2012 she was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Istanbul . From August 2012 to July 2014 she was the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Iraq . From August 2014 to 2017 she was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in New York. In her last post before retirement, she was ambassador to Ethiopia from 2017 to 2020 .
