Britannia inferior

Britannia inferior was a province of the Roman Empire and was in northern England . It was created when the province of Britannia was divided . Their capital was Eboracum , today's York .

In the 4th century AD, the administrative reform of Emperor Diocletian further subdivided it into the provinces of Britannia secunda in the north, with the capital Eboracum , and Flavia Caesariensis , with the capital Lindum Colonia ( Lincoln ). In 369 the province Valentia (named after the emperors Valentinian and Valens ) with the capital Luguvallium ( Carlisle ) was separated.
