Britelo is a place and a former municipality in northern Portugal . It represented the municipality of the small town of Celorico de Basto .
history
Celtiberians and Romans settled in the area. The present-day town of Britelo was probably created during the medieval Reconquista . In the 10th century the place was already documented, since 1045 it was an independent municipality.
In 1719 Britelo became the seat of the Celorico de Basto district.
With the administrative reorganization in Portugal in 2013 , the municipality of Britelo was dissolved and merged with two other municipalities.

Britelo was a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Celorico de Basto in the district of Braga . The community had 2561 inhabitants and an area of 7.78 km² (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the territorial reform of September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Britelo, Gémeos and Ourilhe were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Britelo, Gémeos e Ourilhe . Britelo is the seat of this newly formed community.
