Brockman 4 is approximately 25 km south of the Brockman 2 mine . This mine, which cost $ 1.52 billion to build , is capable of producing 22 million tons of iron ore annually, doubling its capacity by 2012. This should help increase the production target from 220 million tons of iron ore to 330 million.

The iron ore body is approximately 15 km long, more than 3 km wide and includes the hills to the south of the Boolgeeda Creek Valley . The dismantling is done with 15 Komatsu 830E trucks. The iron ore is produced in the mine as iron ore pellets (<31.5 mm,> 6 mm) and fine iron ore (<6 mm). There is a primary crusher , two secondary crushers, a building for six sifting and an iron ore storage yard for 1.2 million tons. Stored iron ore is loaded onto railroad trains and transported to the coast on the Hamersley & Robe River Railway , where it is loaded onto ships.

The mine workers are flown in and out every two weeks.

Brockman 4 has an estimated production time of 20 years. It was officially opened on September 2, 2010. Rio Tinto needed an additional $ 1.24 billion to expand the mine in early December 2010 and also develop the Western Turner Syncline project, which will expand pilbara production to 283 million tons by 2013 [obsolete] . This expansion would make Brockman 4 the second largest mine in Rio Tinto in the Pilbara.
