Brogårdstein

The Brogårdstein ( Danish Brogårdstenen - even Klemensker th 3, No DK Bh 3 or DR called four hundred and first) is the largest area (not the highest) preserved rune stone on the Danish island of Bornholm . The granite stone , first mentioned in 1819, was used as a bridge over the Bagå stream.

The rune stone, created between 1050 and 1100, is 2.67 m high, 1.39 m wide, 9 to 24 cm thick and made of coarse-grained reddish granite . The text reads: "Svenger had this stone built for his father Toste and for his brother Alvlak and for his mother and his sisters", whereby the women are not mentioned by name. The inscription is in a band of snakes typical of Swedish stones, which is provided with an Irish belt .

Tradition has it that it comes from a burial mound near Stælen, but probably not from Hallegård in Rø, which was initially assumed. In 1868 it was erected west of its current location. The stone is now at the confluence of the Simblegårdsvej (from Klemensker) with the Svalhøjvej, the Rønne - Hasle road .

In Klemensker there are also rune stones or rune stone fragments 1 and 2 as well as 4 to 9.
