Brokser marriage market
The Brokser Heiratsmarkt ( Brokser Markt for short ) is a folk festival in Bruchhausen-Vilsen in the Diepholz district . It takes place at the end of August and lasts for five days, from Friday to Tuesday. The last market day is the last Tuesday in August. The market is known throughout the northwest and is the fourth largest folk festival in the region , along with the Bremer Freimarkt , the Oldenburger Kramermarkt and the Vechtaer Stoppelmarkt .
history
The age of the Brokser Markt is not known exactly, it probably originated before the year 1218. There is only documentary evidence for the year 1645. Originally known as the Bartholomäusmarkt , local products from agricultural and commercial production were offered annually at this general and livestock market. Goods from foreign traders were also allowed to be sold on these days of the year, which was otherwise not allowed. Over time, the market has developed more and more towards pleasure, but the traditional cattle and horse market is still an important event on the last market day. The trade also still has a significant share of the marketplace for exhibition and sales.
The origin of the name marriage market is not exactly clear, but the market is always opened by a well-known politician, the so-called marriage broker . In 1991 this was z. B. Gerhard Schröder , 2009 Philipp Rösler .
market
There are four large and two small marquees on the market every year. There is also a trade show with three tents and an outdoor area. The rides always include a Ferris wheel , bumper cars , break dancers and the skipper, as well as some attractions that change every year. All tents and most rides and show booths have the same location every year. The market has up to 400,000 visitors over five days, making it one of the six major folk festivals in north-west Germany.
