Brooklyn Thrill Killers
The Brooklyn Thrill Killers were a gang of young Jewish neo-Nazis . The group consisted of Robert Trachtenberg , Jack Koslow , Melvin Mittman and Jerome Lieberman . She was responsible for two murders and several violent assaults in the New York borough of Brooklyn in the summer of 1954 .
Action and trial
The first casualty of the Brooklyn Thrill Killers was Reinhold Ulrickson , who was brutally cracked in the head. This act was later admitted by the defendants. The second fatality was Willard Menter , a 34-year-old black worker . On August 16, 1954, Menter slept off his intoxication on a park bench. He woke up when cigarettes were stubbed out on his feet. When he tried to run away, he was held and severely beaten. Menter was then thrown into the East River , where he eventually drowned. A passer-by had partially observed this and alerted the police. The latter arrested Trachtenberg , Koslow , Mittman and Lieberman about an hour later .
In addition to these two fatal attacks, there were numerous other attacks. The Thrill Killers later confessed to mistreating several girls with riding crops and burning another man's feet.
According to an article in Time Magazine , in the ensuing trial, one of the perpetrators became a star witness while another was dismissed from the prosecution. Koslow and Mittman, on the other hand, were sentenced by the jury to life imprisonment for the murder of Willard Menter . The act was classified as "felony murder" because the death was a consequence of the kidnapping. This was why Koslow and Mittman escaped the electric chair . While Time did not name any of the perpetrators, Koslow was identified by the Associated Press and referred to as the "brain" of the group.
reception
The German-American psychiatrist and author Dr. Fredric Wertham described the Thrill Killers as an example of the potential dangers that comics pose.
Movie
In 1999 the short film Brooklyn Thrill Killers was released about the group's activities, starring Chip Zien , Anne Meara and Dan Fogler . Scriptwriters and producers were Derek Davidson and Paul Franco .
