The bread factory in the Hausen district of Frankfurt am Main is a self-governing facility in a former bread factory. Eleven projects share almost 1,500 square meters.

In addition to two stages, there is a large event hall, two bars, three psychosocial projects, an advertising agency and a studio .

history

The bread factory at Bachmannstrasse 4 was founded in 1888 under the management of Louis Lantz and Louis Hoffmann. After 1924 it merged with the Hausener bread factory, which was previously known as Mehl- und Brodfabrik GmbH. The two companies brought in useful items, such as machines, tools and horses, which were essential for the factory to continue. After the merger, the new company name was Vereinigte Hausener Brotfabriken AG .

The Frankfurter Zeitung reported in 1939 that the Vereinigte Hausener Brotfabriken AG had been converted into a partnership. The new company owner continued operations under the United Bread Factory Erich L. Fuchs . During this heyday of the factory, 90 bakers and servants were employed.

After the war, an application has been with the district court for conversion into a 1948 general partnership filed (OHG). The founders of the OHG were Messrs. J. Scheld and C. Fuchs. Up to 1955 there were no further reports, only that the application for an OHG was revised by the two gentlemen. Mr. J. Schütten from Bad Homburg vor der Höhe took over as his successor . The last pastry was baked on April 15, 1972. On October 10, 1973 the company was deleted from the commercial register.

In 1975 a carpet dealer took over the property on a long lease for 60 years . However, a planned carpet warehouse with administration building could not be realized and the contract was terminated prematurely.

In 1980, a small group of young people from the Frankfurt spontaneous scene took the initiative, and the bread factory welcomed its guests on March 6, 1981 for the opening. The “Market and Culture Center Society for the Use of the Former Hausener Bread Factory”, or “MuK” for short, then organized theater, concerts and other things with several subgroups. Financial difficulties led to bankruptcy in 1994.

From 1995 to 2005 the association “Culture in der Brotfabrik e. V. ”(now“ musikglobal ”) organizes jazz and world music concerts in the hall; he left the premises after long arguments.

In 2000 the “Theater Primadonna / Schwerer Held” and the “PUT Event Stage” were added with further cultural enrichments. In August 2005 the association “Kulturprojekt 21 e. V. “started its cultural program with the Wikimania party. The Frankfurt Authors' Theater has been based there since 2007 .

The sponsoring association has been Brotfabrik Hausen e. V. It was founded as the successor to the "MuK" by the users of the site at the time. The takeover of a general lease and extensive renovations secured the existence of the center in the long term.
